PRINTS

As a specialist photographic printer in the 'wet darkroom' days, Glyn has always paid strict attention to print quality, from tonal range to colour fidelity. In these days of digital imaging and digital printing, Glyn is just as dedicated to that same aim.

Some think that if you buy the latest camera and use the 'latest' settings for image quality that it's possible to produce prints like those you see in Glyn's gallery, but this is simply not the case.

The whole process from shooting RAW files, processing RAW files, calibrating and profiling monitors, printers and papers, is one which demands critical attention. The latest pigment inks and acid-free, cotton-rag papers that Glyn uses in his studio are archivally guaranteed by the manufacturers for 200+ years, and even if we take their claims with a large pinch of salt, halving their estimates, we will still be considering a lifespan of well over a century!

LIMITED EDITIONS

Glyn chooses to limit his print editions to short runs of prints, so customers are purchasing something far rarer than mass produced prints as seen in furniture and home stores. Editions quantities have been adjusted for newer images over the years, so different images now range from just 3 copies to 30 copies in the A1 size and from 5-50 copies in the smaller A2 size. The largest prints, in the A0 size are only available in editions of 5 copies.

The latest images on offer at the gallery are available as follows:

A0 Archival Edition prints are 45" x 30" and are printed on 44" roll paper.

A1 Archival Edition prints are 28.5" x 19" and are printed on 24" roll paper. PANORAMIC versions are 28.5" x 16".

A2 Archival Edition prints are 21" x 14" and are printed on A2 sheets. PANORAMIC versions are 21" x 12"

A3 Archival prints are 15" x 10" on A3 or Super A3 sheets. PANORAMIC versions are 15" x 8.5"

A4 Archival prints are 9" x 6" on A4 sheets. PANORAMIC versions are 10" x 5.5"

A3 & A4 Archival prints are signed, but not limited in quantity.

The advantages of a Limited Edition is investment value. If thousands of people have the same print as you, not only does it not feel so 'special' - it will rarely see an increase in value. Rare images are more collectable and will hold prices better over time and of course after an artist passes away. Of course there are NO guarantees about this as it all depends upon the lifelong success of the artist, and this can be in many ways, but also how well their work does on the secondary art market, where prints are bought by subsequent buyers & galleries.

The prices of Glyn's editions reflect the rarity and provenance of the artist, but being based in a beautiful but economically deprived area, Glyn has had to price low enough for average income of customers his own area. If he was selling these in the big cities the prices would be much higher.

All prints are signed and numbered on the front of each print, and for authenticity, every customer buying a Limited Edition print has their contact details logged as part of the print provenance for future; (they do have the option to opt out if they really don't want their name and address securely stored)
