I am from Falmouth originally, but spend most of my annual Cornish visits between Cadgwith, the Lizard and Porthleven, to Mount's Bay, Penzance, Marazion, Porthcurno, Land's End, Sennen and St Ives. It gives the impression of being underwater whilst the waves crash above the surface. I’ve been back to this beach many times and haven’t been able to shoot anything like it again. I was completely alone on the beach, stood in a choppy sea with powerful backwash.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eI was using heavy professional gear to get this shot, thousands of pounds worth of kit a two foot above the sea! What would have looked surreal from the clifftop was a little naked Jack-in-the-Box crouching down on a sand-cusp to shoot through the waves as they rose before him, before rapidly jumping up to keep the camera clear of each rib-high backwash! This was one of my daftest shoots ever, but I’m delighted with the result. This is the Polpeor lifeboat station, built in 1914 and finally closed in 1961 so I’ve never been fortunate enough to have witnessed it being used to house an actual lifeboat.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eWhat I have witnessed over the last 4 decades is it’s use by local fishermen to house their kit but I noticed this last visit a few weeks ago that the ramp has now completely broken up and it’s really only the shed itself that remains standing.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe curved boat ramp in the foreground is still used regularly by small local fishing boats as it keeps them free of the worst of the heavy seas and weather.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eNevertheless you can’t visit this place without becoming vividly aware of it’s important maritime history and the treacherous coastline in which it nestles.
